Whether you’re in it for the originals, the reboots, or the chance to see your favourite characters in totally bonkers new situations, discover what’s coming to The Light this year, and get excited with us for the most anticipated films of 2025!

Here are 10 new releases we’re counting down the days for.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning

Release Date: 21 May

Ethan Hunt is back, and with him impossible missions that involve more explosions, stunt work that defies physics, and enough plot twists to make your head spin. This might be the "final" reckoning, but we wouldn’t be shocked if somehow a new Mission sneaks its way in there. Because who’s really going to stop Tom Cruise from hanging off another plane?

Ballerina

Release Date: 6 June

The John Wick universe expands with Ballerina, a spinoff that promises to take the action in an entirely new direction, with a new badass (played by Ana de Armas) stepping up. Expect ballerinas who can fight like they’re in a Matrix movie, probably a Russian mob somewhere in the mix, and enough high-intensity action to keep your adrenaline pumping.

F1

Release Date: 27 June

Fast cars. Furious drivers. And an exhilarating look behind the scenes of the adrenaline-fueled world of Formula 1 racing. Starring Brad Pitt and directed by Top Gun: Maverick’s Joseph Kosinski, strap in for breathtaking race sequences, zooming through iconic circuits, and maybe a crash or two. If you thought the Fast & Furious franchise was the pinnacle of vehicular drama, think again.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps

Release Date: 25 July

Marvel-heads, get ready for the Fantastic Four's grand entrance into the MCU. First Steps will take us through the origin story of Marvel’s beloved first family, with Pedro Pascal starring as Mr Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby (Mission Impossible, Napoleon) as Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn (Gladiator II) as the Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear) as The Thing. The question on everyone's mind: will Reed Richards finally get a suit that fits?

Downton Abbey 3

Release Date: 12 September

The Crawley family is expecting you. Our favourite aristocrats are back for another round of sumptuous dinners, subtle, long-winded glances across the dinner table, and Lady Mary throwing shade from behind her impeccable fashion choices. We cannot wait for more scandals and high-society drama; so pour yourself some tea and stay tuned for a new adventure wrapped in English charm.

Michael

Release Date: 3 October

Ready to dance in your seat? Michael is the long-awaited Michael Jackson biopic, delving into the King of Pop’s career, from his early days with the Jackson 5 to his rise as one of the most iconic musicians in history. Starring Michael’s nephew Jaafar, we expect a powerhouse performance, incredible music, and plenty of those unforgettable moves.

Wicked: For Good

Release Date: 21 November

When you thought your obsession with Wicked was over, a sequel is already on the way! Exactly a year on from the sensational first installment, starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, we’re returning to the land of Oz to follow the powerful story of Elphaba, Glinda, and the magical world that we all know and love. Will our favourite witches end up saving the day? Or will the consequences of their actions from the first film come back to haunt them? One thing’s for sure: Wicked: For Good will have us defying gravity all over again.

Zootropolis 2

Release Date: 28 November

After the first film taught us that anthropomorphic animals can solve crimes better than most humans, the world of Zootropolis is coming back with more laughs, clever social commentary and wild adventures. We are so excited to follow Detectives Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) while they solve another case, and this time, Shakira is in the mix. No, really!

Avatar: Fire and Ash

Release Date: 19 December

James Cameron returns with another Avatar sequel, and yes, it’s as epic as it sounds. After The Way of Water, this sequel promises to take us even deeper into the world of Pandora, this time exploring its volcanic and fiery landscapes. At this point, Pandora is basically a second home for us cinemagoers. We’re all ready to go back, even if it means getting swept up in another world-ending catastrophe.

If any of these films tickles your fancy, check out the trailers and stay tuned for tickets to be released on The Light’s website!
